Hello! You may have seen me here in the clinic over the past year and if I haven’t had the opportunity to introduce myself, please allow me to do so now.  My name is Gwen Valentic-Morrison and I have had the priviledge of attending to Nicole’s clients while she attended to her new babe, Ethan, and will be helping out with Viva’s maternity leave and new patients to the clinic.

I am a 2005 graduate of the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy and became a  Registered Therapist that same year.  In 2008 I received my certification as a Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage and Combined Decongestive Therapist allowing me to effectively and gently reduce edema and swelling, including edema caused by venous insufficiency or following surgery or cancer treatment. I also have additional training in scar release and treatment of the post-surgical breast, and am a 3rd Degree Reiki practioner.

My massage style includes a variety of techniques and the full spectrum of depth and pressure to suit the needs and wants of each person, and I am eager to learn and implement what has worked for you best in the past. My treatments generally consist of fascial release, trigger point therapy, neuromuscular therapy, joint manipulation when indicated, and Swedish massage techniques.

MLD is a gentle, rhythmic technique that targets initial lymphatic vessels and increases and enhances lymphatic flow. MLD alone or combined with compression bandaging can significantly reduce edema and swelling, restoring function and reducing pain.

Reiki is a Japanese holistic, light-touch, energy-based modality. Working as a support mechanism to the body, Reiki re-establishes a normal energy flow of ki (life force energy) throughout the system, which in turn can enhance and accelerate the body’s innate healing ability. Through a series of hand positions either directly on or just above the body, the energy worker allows for the flow of energy through their body. The client’s body then draws off the amount of energy that is required. The simplicity of a Reiki session may raise some skepticism, however, after experiencing it, many clients keep coming back for more of those relaxing feelings.

The most common conditions I treat with massage therapy include the following:

Sports Injuries and Maintenance

Pre and Post Athletic Event Massage

Pregnancy and Postnatal Massage

Headaches and Migraines

Growing Pains

Sinus Congestion

Joint Dysfunction

Stress Management

Sprains and Strains

Pelvic alignment

Cancer and Palliative Care

Lymphedema and Venous Insufficiency

Reiki has greatly benefited those with emotional or psychological distress, hormonal imbalances, habit breaking, pain, insomnia, and gastrointestinal distress.

I look forward to serving you in whatever capacity I can.
